The headline of this blog reflects the words stated by Mark Zuckerberg– “Future is delicious”, on the commencement of F8 2017, so I have picked it since it speaks my state of mind; am a foodie and I love technology as well. Agree, am not the tech-geek you were looking for, but have a positive and long history of liking, writing, and talking more about the latest tech trends in the market, first as a demand of my job role of BDM in a  mobile app development company – Techugo and second, except coding, I incline happily towards the other technical aspects of the app development process. My passion towards technology leads me to keep a watch on any new update rolling in the market through any source and the F8-2017, is the best resource to gain more information about technology.

F8 2017

F8 is a 2 – day event, which creates a platform for the developers and businesses to come together and explore the future of the technology. I have been following the F8 keynotes from the day it started, means 18th April’17 and with F8, Mark Zuckerberg has made it clear that our mobile camera is not destined to click pic merely, but with the latest AR technology Facebook wants us to create and add a second ‘augmented’ layer on the pic. Indeed the features are useful enough making the camera on our mobile phone the most important thing, letting the users share photos and videos with their friends powered by Augmented Reality inside Facebook. Users now would be able to attain the playful and informational metadata, by lifting up the handset, opening the Facebook app, and viewing the world through the camera. Facebook is investing creativity in the development of AR features, so they can be more subtle and way more useful. I have accumulated all the announcements of day 1 and have penned it down, let’s commence:

Camera and the AR platform

F8 2017, encountered the opening of the conference with Mark Zuckerberg stating, how the camera is the first mainstream augmented reality (AR) platform. We all use the mobile camera on a daily basis to click selfies, groupfie, and other images, but now Facebook is going to provide a suite of creative tools to create and transform the still images into interactive effects and masks utilizing the AR technologies. The camera effects platform shall include:

  • Frames Studio

It is an online creative editor, allowing users to design frames to be used either as profile picture frames or in the new Facebook camera, this effect is available globally.

  • AR Studio

The AR Studio is open for beta applications now and can be utilized to create masks, scripted effects, animated frames and other AR technologies, which would react depending on the movement, the environment or interactions during the live videos.

Facebook Spaces

It is a new virtual reality app, letting the users chat with friends in an interactive virtual environment and users can view Facebook content with friends in VR, including 360 videos and photos, which would transport them to new places. Users are free to wear their imagination hat and can create anything which they desire. Facebook Spaces is launched in beta for Oculus Rift on Tuesday the 18th April’17.  To make it more interesting, Facebook Spaces would let the users call their friends in the real world with Messenger video calling and friends can answer the call on their phone to instantly open a window into the caller’s virtual world. It includes a selfie stick to capture the splendid experience created in VR with your friends on Facebook.

Developer Circles

Another interesting programme announced by Facebook is for the developers all over the world to connect, learn, and collaborate with other local developers and create innovative ideas and learn more about the latest technologies from Facebook. This platform is a community driven programme open for all the developers across the globe and involves no joining fee, and has an aim to build better apps by a large number of developers across the globe and meeting the company’s goal for global expansion.

Places Graph

Places Graph is all about providing the free access to data on more than 140 million places across the globe and the list of places include everything from public spaces and parks to restaurants, stores, and other local businesses. This feature would help save money and save the data include place names, addresses, photos, Facebook consumer ratings and more.

Messenger Bots Get Wiser

Facebook’s Messenger platform has evolved efficiently and in the F8 conference, the innovative and exciting features and advanced tools added in Messenger bots were discussed, mentioned below is the excerpt from the keynote:

    • New Discover Tab– This tab allows the people to look for the bot for Messenger in an intuitive and thoughtful way, starting directly right from the home screen in Messenger. With this new feature, Facebook has enabled discovery in the physical world with new parametric Messenger codes, allowing the users to scan Messenger Codes through the Messenger camera and link to brands and businesses.
    • Chat Extensions- This extension lets the multiple people chat with the same business at the same time. Users can add in a bot directly in a group thread to share the conversation and experience.
    • M can Order food – The AI assistant of Messenger ‘M’ is able to order the food through delivery.com. To illustrate, if you chatted with friends for the Mughlai cuisine in dinner, M would instantly suggest the places for order and the remaining steps; ordering and payment would be completed with Messanger only.
    • Smart Replies- This feature allows the users to respond to FAQs, like business hours, directions and contact details, through their Pages.
    • Hand-over Protocol- It allows the businesses to work with multiple developers to create different experiences on Messenger.

360 Capture SDK

With this new feature, users can easily share their VR experiences with the 360 Capture SDK, which would let the users capture their VR experiences in the form of 360 photos and videos and upload it to be viewed on a News Feed or a VR headset. The SDK is compatible with the multiple game engines and can work without compromising quality or speed.

Facebook Analytics

Facebook has re-christened the ‘Facebook Analytics for Apps’ to ‘Facebook Analytics’ now, it is a free product to assess the audience demographics, and measure the customer behavior across the Facebook. With a new name, it has also got a few interesting capabilities to help developers understand and optimize the complete customer journey across the channel. With the usage of advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence, now Facebook Analytics would reduce the time spent searching for hints and would bring the valuable insights directly to you.

Identity

Facebook has launched the Identity feature, which would help to maintain connections, including a secure way to recover customer accounts by confirming their identity with no requirement of sharing their personal information or passwords. As Facebook has quoted,” Our new API allows you to map between a Facebook Login ID and a Messenger ID, so you can serve your customers smoothly across both experiences”.

This is the all I have gathered till now, but you don’t go anywhere and keep watching this space for the Day 2 keynote of F8…so just stay tuned and get served with more tech news.
