Martha Stewart, the famous American business woman once said “It is within everyone’s grasp to be a CEO.” Gender though is used as an excuse to stop people from breaking a glass ceiling… but we all know it isn’t logical, EVER! 

It is the 21st century and we are witnessing an era where it isn’t about the rights of one sect anymore; the dream is to make the SOCIETY egalitarian a reality… IN EVERY RESPECT! 

Women have been into computing, engineering, research and all tech-fields… this isn’t a new development. The only difference is, their contribution, effort and work are being noticed now – GREAT INDEED!

Keeping those thoughts in background, here are a few events happening in a field that is considered male-dominated – but this misconception is nowhere a reality.

• Black Women Tech Talk

This conference is a collective of passionate Black women tech founders. They have a unique understanding of issues Black women face in the tech industry. The conference is dedicated to it founders and other women working in this domain. It offers ‘self-enriching sessions, networking and one-of-a-kind experiences.’

Black Women Tech founders aim to identify, support and encourage Black women to build billion-dollar businesses! The conference includes sessions on self-care as founders, address by keynote speakers, workshops related to being a female entrepreneur, etc.

It isn’t just business and tech that women here talk about. The retreat includes sessions that are not strictly traditional for business meets. That includes group yoga and self-pampering sessions like free hair and make-up treatments. This gives the attendees time to relax and mingle with fellow businesswomen.

• The Girls In Tech Conference

This event features speakers, panel discussions and breakout sessions with the leaders in tech-field! The best part is attendees are given a chance to find and interact with role models, mentors, tech-experts. This way they get insights into the know-hows of navigating their careers along with developing business skills.
For many reasons, Girls In Tech Conference is considered a great place to explore opportunities and build better skills for a promising career.

This year, it will be a one day event, that will take place virtually. Panel discussions, group conversations will be a part of it too.

• Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS)

WiCyS conference was established by Dr. Ambareen Siraj in the year 2012. It is a non-profit organisation offering scholarships, networking opportunities, memberships to women working in cyber-security. It is supposedly the largest cybersecurity conference with equal numbers of students and professionals. Through this event, the members of WiCyS and the non-members get a chance to network with women working in this industry.

Apart from providing information about latest cybersecurity trends, the conference helps organisations recruit and advance women in cyber security. All this happens while simultaneously focusing on building a community of engagement, support and encouragement – at a technical conference! So, it isn’t JUST technical… quite holistic, right?!

• Virtual Grace Hopper Celebration (vGHC)

Now this is one is named after THE Grace Hopper and it is one of the “largest gathering women technologists” according to their website! The Grace hopper Celebration was founded in 1994 by Dr. Anita Borg and Dr. Telle Whitney.

For those of you who don’t know who Grace Hopper was… read on! She was an American computer scientist and her work is directly responsible for the development of COBOL! She was also US Navy rear admiral and one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer.
She is considered a pioneer of computer programming who invented first linkers! An event named after such a legend, cannot be small at all, right!

This event allows collaborative proposals, networking and mentoring for the participants. Along with that, professional development through a number of activities is also offered. The conference is designed in a manner to bring research and career interest of women in computing to the forefront.

• Women in Tech Festival

Women in Tech Festival is an initiative of Silicon Valley Forum. It celebrates women in STEM, business and leadership to inspire and empower other women to take up roles in these fields. This event supports women and anyone who believes in diversity and advancement of women.

The conference enables women to exchange ideas, interact with experts and build lasting connections – in an interactive, fun, warm and welcoming environment! Women in Tech Festival is a three-day event and invites women from across the globe to participate virtually and in-person. The interaction takes place through inspiring talks, discussions, entrepreneurial pitches, keynotes, educational workshops, etc.

A little something about Silicon Valley Forum – it connects people and organisations to knowledge, networks and companies in Silicon Valley. They have an experience spanning over 38 years and a vast network in local ecosystems!

• Women Impact Tech

Women Impact Tech is an inclusive community that enables participants to discover diverse companies that are inclusive and build connections with leaders and mentors. The conference aims to achieve equality in tech. It is a building community for women in tech-domain with an aim to ensure gender equity. The event includes keynote speakers, panel discussions, breakout sessions, etc.

This event gives women engineers in particular and women in tech generally, a chance to connect and build networks with more than 350 tech companies. They offer a virtual conference to the people who cannot attend the events in person.

Women in Tech and its founders believe they can dismantle systemic barriers and rebalance privilege and power in tech. Their aim to build and further a community that works as a safe haven for personal growth, collaboration and a sense of belongingness.
